This year EGP will partner with the Youth Training Organisation (Y.T.O.) to aid in the development of a seed-bank that will supply local communities with rare and endangered indigenous seeds for the purpose of reforestation. The project will also involve sensitizing local community volunteers and organisations about the importance of these trees in order to promote wider participation in conservation efforts and addressing the pressing issue of deforestation in Tanzania. This year, EGP will be working with Arshabharath in the district of Wayanad. They will be facilitating the installation of 16 Rainwater Harvesting Units for the Malayachamkolly community. Currently, the households suffer from extreme water shortages between March and May, forcing women to walk long distances to collect water. Rainwater harvesting technology is a sustainable and effective way of ensuring year-round access to clean drinking water, and is a much-needed innovation for the community. Budget: £9,000

In Summer 2020, EGP will be partnering with Voice of Change to deliver a sanitary pad and sexual health education project in the Rumphi district. Sanitary products are expensive and hard to access, meaning girls cannot attend school during their period and drop-out rates are high. Volunteers will facilitate the training of 20 young women in the production of reusable sanitary pads, 500 of which will be distributed for free to disadvantaged girls. The pads will then be sold for profit, generating income for the women. This will take place alongside the delivery of menstrual hygiene education sessions at local school clubs. Budget: £7,000

Next summer, volunteers will be working with Youth Development for Empowerment Initiative (Y.E.D.I.) to aid in the construction of a youth-led hammer mill that turns maize into maize flour. Not only does it provide increased local food security, but 50% of the profits will go into a village banking system that gives low-interest loans to local entrepreneurs. The project will also support disadvantaged youths, people living with HIV/AIDS, and those impacted by child marriages. Budget: £9,000
