About Us

Learn more about our development experience and what makes EGP so great!

Edinburgh Global Partnerships is a student-run registered Scottish charity based at the University of Edinburgh. Our aim is to assist in community-led, sustainable development projects overseas.

EGP members are organized into project groups and together they fundraise a project budget throughout the academic year. In the summer, they fly out to the project site to work alongside the local community in implementing the project.

We are proud that all of our selected projects are proposed and supported by the host community. This is vital for the long-term success of the projects.

30 Years of Experience in
Community-led Development

EGP was founded as Humanitarian Education & Long term Projects (H.E.L.P.) in May 1990 by a student called Benjamin Carey. In 2002 H.E.L.P. rebranded itself as EGP. In 2019, EGP became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO).

Over the past 30 years, EGP has partnered with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across South America, Asia and Africa on a plethora of projects. Projects range from construction projects (i.e. maize mills, fish farms) to social projects (i.e. promoting menstrual hygiene to schoolgirls, reforestation projects).

EGP is proud to support community initiatives, working with grassroots NGO’s to achieve their long-term goals for development. All of these projects are proposed to us by the communities themselves. Our model is based on the belief that our partners should be treated as experts who know best what their communities need.

Our Aims:

  1. To offer members the opportunity to harness new skills and gain real world experience to widen their perspectives
  2. To promote international understanding through projects that are focused on trust and respect between EGP members and our partner organizations
